BASAA

(Biologically activated surface active agent )

Basaa is one of a unique product presented by Shree Chemicals Industries. It is a biologically activated surface active agent. These molecules are amphiphilic compounds produced by micro organism and contain hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties that educe surface tension and interfacial tension between individual molecules at the surface and interface respectively. Basaa has the following. Advantages compared with other surfactants i.e. better surface tension reduction power-in comparison of other surfactant available in market .It has better soil removal from clothes and surfaces as compared to other surfactants .It has higher bio-degradability, better environmental compatibility lower toxicity. Basaa shows sustained performance at wide range of temperature and pH .excellent synergy with other conventional surfactants resulting in substantial performance improvement and cost saving in detergent formulation.

Classification and chemical nature

BASAA belongs to lower molecular weight surfactant in biochemistry these are called non ionic lower molecular weight surfactant. Lower molecular weight surfactants are generally glycolipids or lip peptides.  These lower molecular weight surfactants are non-ionic and there action is to lower the surface and interfacial tension .

Structurally it is a cyclolipopeptide  . In BASAA cyclolipopeptide is immobilized in a solid. Support to give its maximum solubility in aqueous solution.

Physical Properties

BASAA is a brown blue liquid with a pleased smell of bacterial function.

Chemical properties

Effect of pH and temperature on the stability of Basaa .Basaa containing solution was adjusted to various pH in the range of 2 to 16 at room temperature and allowed to stand for 24 hrs following which the surface activities were measured. The observation confirms stability of Basaa at pH ranging from 2 to 16 at room temperature indicating that variation in pH has no appreciated effect on surface activity,

The surface tension reduction values of basaa  were measured at 100∙C for 3 hrs  at 20 mint intervals. The observation confirms that basaa is stable even at high temperature.

Uses

Basaa  is used for a wide variety of purposes such as emulsification, detergency, solubilisation ,wetting and spreading properties. It has potential applications in such areas as the environmental protection,  surplus cride oil recovery, health care and food processing industry . In the detergent industry it is important to remove dirt, grease, fatty materials etc.

Why used in detergent powder and cake

Basaa  is a better surfactant than other surfactants are available in market. It will gives better regards in cleaning due to it deep  penetration in fabric pores where darts is
Blocked specially in detergent cake and powder.

Basaa   has three major advantages for these applications:

Better surface tension reduction power the environmental consequences of its use is minimum   and its addition can reduce the concentration of chemical  surfactants that are much more harmful.
Basaa is completely  biodegradable. It is compatible with the variety of enzymes that are used in the detergent industry. It has antibacterial, antifungal properties. Temperature & pH stability in performance is better.

Dosage in detergent industry

Since Basaa is very effective as a surface active agent but due to its low foam generating  performance, the recommended dose is 0.1 -3% in combination with other chemical detergents for a better synergistic wash performance at a lower cost.

Toxicity

Basaa is produced by a non-toxicology, non pathogenic, eco-friendly strain of microorganism to ensure environmental safety . it is non-toxic to animal, plant and human.

Packaging

Basaa is available in 30 kg and 60kg plastic drums

TESTING REPORTS OF BASAA

  APPLICATION  :- BASSA
APPARATUS :- Test tubes, Pippet, Weighing balance
  PROCDURE :-

Take 0.50 gm of the sample is to dissolve in 1 ml of H2O.Add 5ml
Solution C, leave it for 10 minutes.

Add 0.5 ml of folin’s reagent, leave it for ½ hr.

The intensity of Blue colour is the measure of lip

  CALCULATION :-

The concentration of the sample could be calculated by calculating
the O.D 550 nm.

(As the biosurfactant is a liop polypeptide, it gives the positive test of peptide)

  Solution C = Solution A+B (50ml of A+1ml of B)
  Where,
  Solution A = NaOH -2gm, Na2CO3 -10gm dissolved in water to make 500 ml .
  Solution B = 1 ml solution E + 0.1 ml solution F
  Solution E = 1.1% Na-K tartrate
  Solution F = 5.5% CuSO4

(Prepare stock solution of solution E & solution F and Prepare solution C at the time of use only)
          Folln’s reagent = dilute it 1:1 with H2O
